Scientific literacy is defined as utilizing things such as writing, looking at numbers, and analyzing things as they pertain to science. We have put this into practice in most lab assignments. In some of the earlier labs, we had to create and analyze graphs to determine certain values to enhance our final project. Also, for the scientific paper as well as the species report, we had to read and understand multiple scientific journals in order to correctly cite them in the papers. This learning outcome is important for college students because it forces us to understand more professional material that those of us pursuing science majors will have to read for the rest of their careers. Also, it promotes higher-level thinking and makes it impossible for us to skim and still understand to the same extent.
