I think your podcast was very strong, the music in the back was a nice touch. It flowed nicely and the questions as well as answers were nicely constructed. And your explanations and providing your interviewee context were very good.

    Hi Chris,
Paper: You make an interesting argument that “as a” declarations can be an assertion of identity. The question that Appiah would raise, I think, is whether a blanket group identity really has an authentic content. I love your word “suppress” in the definition of covering. Your conclusion, where you bring Yoshino and Appiah together, is the strongest part of your paper, making it clear that the authors share a focus on the problem of authenticity. Although you didn’t share a draft until it was too late to get comments, it’s a strong paper. I would have encouraged you to think more about assimilation as you have an unusual understanding of the term. Did you read Lalami’s article? A-

Podcast: Your podcast is rather hard to hear as the music overpowers your voice at times. And there’s a lot of clicking noise. I like the way you tell us what the podcast will cover. And I like the way your questions flow from what you say, for example, everyone is guilty of covering. No reflection. B+ Carole
